Master of Science in Urban Informatics — Online

The MS in Urban Informatics is training a new generation of experts who can navigate the technical and socioeconomic landscape on which life in the city unfolds. With classes 100% online, the program couples comprehensive data analytics skills with an understanding of the big questions faced by cities in the 21st century. Only a handful of U.S. universities currently offer degrees in Urban Informatics. Northeastern's interdisciplinary curriculum, leading faculty, experiential opportunities, and its prime location at the heart of Boston set the university apart from other institutions.

The Graduate Certificate in Urban Analytics prepares students to manage the progressively complex issues involved with rapidly expanding data and technological resources in cities. With classes on campus and online, students obtain the practical and theoretical knowledge necessary to understand the intricacies of interconnected urban systems and to analyze how these systems can work together to create sustainable, resilient and just cities. Only a handful of U.S. universities currently offer certificates in Urban Analytics.

Master of Science in Urban and Regional Policy

The Master of Science in Urban and Regional Policy combines training in theories and frameworks of urban development with an understanding of urban politics, and skills in policy analysis, quantitative and qualitative research, and strategic action. Many of our graduates go on to work for state and local government, federal agencies, community development corporations, and other nonprofit organizations, research institutes, and private sector policy consultancy firms.

Master of Arts in History

The Master of Arts program in History is one of the leading master’s programs nationally that focuses on world history as a primary field. Our 19 full-time faculty members introduce students to a range of historical questions and methodologies and guide students in carrying out extensive research projects. Through courses spanning the globe, students learn to put the past in context and to discern its crucial relevance to current conditions and future possibilities at the local, national, and global levels.

The Master of Arts Degree launches students into the study of literature, writing, and rhetoric at the graduate level. The program offers two years of intensive study in the major fields of British and American literature, covering the debates and approaches that animate the discipline of English. Our MA graduates are fully prepared to proceed to study at the doctoral level, and their training in critical thinking, language skills, and cultural history has also proven to be fruitful preparation for a range of careers outside of academia.

Master of Arts in Economics

The Master of Arts in Economics is a degree in applied economic analysis and policy. The MA degree is designed to provide a solid foundation in economic theory and quantitative methods, while providing an opportunity for students to apply the tools of economic analysis to particular policy areas. The program is designed to serve the need for a terminal graduate degree for those who want to become professional economists, government officials, and economic consultants, and to lay the groundwork for students who wish to pursue the PhD degree.
